Peter Macreadie has been awarded the 2006 Nancy Millis Postgraduate Research Award.
The Nancy Millis Postgraduate Research Awards are presented to graduates in agriculture, natural resource management, earth sciences or environmental science who are eligible to register for PhD programs at Victorian universities. Named after Emeritus Professor Nancy Millis of The University of Melbourne, the Nancy Millis PhD Scholarship Award for Research honours her commitment and achievements in science education. It aims to promote her belief that postgraduate training can help provide solutions to problems in agriculture.
Peter is currently undertaking his PhD jointly supervised by Dr Jeremy Hindell of DPI and Professor Michael J Keough of The University of Melbourne.
Peter's research aims to provide a novel test of how density, growth and survival of juvenile fish are affected by changes in seagrass landscapes. His findings will have important applications in the sustainable management of Australia’s threatened coastal habitats; help identify and investigate threats to critical fish habitats; and ensure that fishing industries use and manage Victoria’s natural resources in an ecologically and socially sustainable way.
Chief DPI Scientist, Sir Gus Nossal, presented Peter with the prestigious award.
