Joanna Browne PhD candidate at VMSC

Joanna Browne has been awarded the prize for Best Student Oral Presentation at the Third International Jellyfish Blooms Symposium in Mar Del Plata, Argentina held from 14–16 July 2010. Joanna's winning presentation was entitled Investigating life cycles and host specificity of digenean parasites of gelatinous zooplankton using DNA.

In the week prior to the conference Joanna visited the laboratory of Dr Sergio Martorelli at CEPAVE (Centro de Estudios Parasitológicos y Vectores) in La Plata, a town 3 hours north of Mar Del Plata. At the laboratory she learnt new techniques and was able to share her knowledge of DNA editing software with students at the CEPAVE lab.

Joanna commenced her PhD through Griffith University and Museum Victoria in 2008. Her supervisors are Dr Kylie Pitt at Griffith University, and Dr Mark Norman at Museum Victoria.
