Proposal for Student Cadetship through the EPA's Strategic Research Partnerships - Integrated Marine Observing System's Ship of Opportunity (IMOS SOOP).
Since 2008, scientists from EPA Victoria have engaged with the IMOS SOOP facility, to operate an autonomous sampling system on the Spirit of Tasmania 1.
Job Requirement: A suitable applicant is sought to undertake a coordinating and service component of this project, requiring technical skill with marine instrumentation, familiarity with calibration procedures and post-processing software. The applicant will be required throughout the year to undertake service work on the Spirit of Tasmania 1 when docked at Port Melbourne, preparation of calibration standards, delivery of calibration samples for analysis, data post-processing and transfer to eMII. The candidate will also provide an additional technical support role for other EPA marine projects. EPA will place a preference on a suitable candidate who is able to engage the project work into their post-graduate research. The cadetship position is funded for $6000, ideally on an as needs basis over a 12-month period.
