Nmultispina On sabbatical.....

Professor Richard Emlet, Professor of Biology from the University of Oregon, Institute of Marine Biology.

Richard received his PhD from University of Washington and had post-doctoral fellowships at the Smithsonian Institution, University of California Berkeley, and University of Tokyo.  He has been on the faculty at U. Oregon since 1992 and lives on the Oregon coast where he teaches and conducts research on invertebrate larvae and juveniles.  His particular research interests include evolutionary, ecological, and biomechanical evaluation of organismal structure and function, emphasizing developmental, larval, and juvenile stages of marine invertebrates.

During his time here Richard will continue studies on development of echinoids in southern Australia (Vic, SA, and Tasmania - including 3 genera of temnopleurids (Holopneustes, Ambylpneustes, and Microcyphus), and the echinometrids, Pachycentrotus spp..  He will also survey developmental patterns of non-asterinid asteroids and examine developmental patterns of gastropods.

Richard's first visit to VMSC was in September 2006 for a period of 5 months; Richard returned to continue his studies from January to March 2008.
