Visiting VMSC at Queenscliff

Bookings

Contact Liz McGrath to check availability of space and to make any reservations. Visitors should check in with Liz on arrival, and on their first visit will receive site orientation specific to VMSC operations.

Special arrangements are required for accessing VMSC out of normal working hours and on weekends. Please notify Liz beforehand to organise any out-of-hours access.

Accommodation

A variety of accommodation options are available in and around Queenscliff; the summer months can be heavily booked with limited accommodation options available. The University of Melbourne's Department of Zoology has accommodation at nearby Ocean Grove, which is available to users of VMSC. For further information, to check on availability and/or make a booking - contact Josie D'Alessandro in the Department of Zoology. You can also call the Department of Zoology on (03) 8344 6244 or contact Liz McGrath at VMSC.

Diving

VMSC is regarded as part of each member institution; researchers and students are required to operate under the diving regulations of their home institute.

EHS/OHS

Again, with VMSC regarded as a part of each institution, visitors should act under the appropriate EHS/OHS regulations, including risk assessments for field work and all appropriate laboratory safety procedures. The supervisor for routine operations is their home institution supervisor, who would normally sign off on risk assessments, etc.

As a shared facility however, additional procedures are necessary, especially for storage of chemicals. Chemical storage is under the supervision of Rod Watson, who will ensure that chemicals are stored appropriately. A common set of Material Safety Data Sheets is also maintained by Rod Watson.

Boat use

All boat use is subject to authorisation by Rod Watson, and visitors must provide Rod with evidence of qualifications and experience appropriate for the particular boat and location.
